Amy J. Abrahamson, B.Math

SENIOR ACTUARIAL ANALYST

Amy has worked as a consulting actuary since 1994 – serving many self-insured corporations, public entity pools, and insurance companies in both reserving and pricing. She focuses on ensuring data quality in the preparation of analyses, spreadsheet design, and analysis of reserving and pricing studies, as well as communication of results to clients.

Amy has successfully completed about 45 percent of the examination requirements for becoming a fully-credentialed actuary. She graduated with honors from the Institute of Technology at the University of Minnesota with a major in Mathematics, specializing in Actuarial Science. Amy is married and has three children. She enjoys spending time at her family cabin, reading, walking, traveling, and baking.

Scott C. Anderson, FCAS, MAAA, FCA

President and Consulting Actuary

Scott has worked in the property/casualty actuarial profession since 1988 and has served as a consulting actuary since 2008.  Prior to joining Actuarial Advisors, Inc., he had worked for Gross Consulting, Zurich North America, St. Paul Companies (Travelers), Milwaukee Insurance and American Bankers Insurance.  He has broad-based experience in reserving, pricing, and risk management for all types of insurance organizations from self-insured enterprises to large multi-national insurers.  Areas of focus have included construction related risks, personal lines, reinsurance and captive coverages.

Scott holds designations of Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS), Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) and Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries (FCA).  He meets the Specific Qualification Standards of the American Academy of Actuaries for signing statutory loss reserve opinions in the United States.  He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. degree, majoring in mathematics.  Scott enjoys playing music, reading mystery novels, cooking and getting outside in the Minnesota summer.

Richard V. Atkinson, FCAS, MAAA

CONSULTING ACTUARY

Rick has worked in the property/casualty actuarial profession since 1982.  He has worked for three different P&C insurance companies, most recently for the Horace Mann Companies where he served as Chief P&C Actuary, and later, Vice President of Product Administration.  He has also worked as a consulting actuary for Deloitte and Touche.  He has broad-based experience in reserving, pricing, and risk management for insurance companies, self-insured organizations, and public entities.

Rick holds designations of Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), and meets the Specific Qualification Standards of the American Academy of Actuaries for signing statutory loss reserve opinions in the United States.  He graduated Scholar of the College from the University of Minnesota-Morris with a B.A. degree, majoring in mathematics, political science, and German.  He earned the MBA designation from the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management, in 2001.  Rick is married and has three grown children.  He enjoys sports, reading, nature, and spending time with his family.

Lindsey M. Burgstahler, B.S.B.

ACTUARIAL ANALYST

Lindsey began working in the actuarial profession in 2005 as an intern with Actuarial Advisors, Inc.  After graduating from the University of Minnesota (2007) with a degree in Actuarial Science and Risk Management and Insurance, she joined the company full-time.  Her primary focus has been on large risk pricing and reserving for captive insurance companies, as well as involvement with self-insurance studies and insurance company reserve work.  Lindsey focuses on ensuring data quality in preparation of analyses, spreadsheet design, analysis of reserving and pricing studies, as well as communication of results to clients.

Lindsey has successfully completed about 40 percent of the examination requirements for becoming a fully-credentialed actuary, and she is continuing to work towards becoming an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS). Lindsey enjoys running, skiing, golfing, and spending time with her husband, friends, and family.

Mark A. Doepke, FCAS, MAAA

Senior Consulting Actuary

Mark has worked in the property/casualty actuarial profession since 1974 and has served as a consulting actuary since 1985.  Prior to forming Actuarial Advisors, Inc. in 1991, he had worked for Allstate Insurance Company, St. Paul Companies (Travelers), and Deloitte & Touche.  He has broad-based experience in reserving, pricing, and cash flow analysis for insurance companies, public entity risk pools, individual and group self-insurers, captives, and reinsurers.

Mark holds designations of Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), and meets the Specific Qualification Standards of the American Academy of Actuaries for signing statutory loss reserve opinions in the United States.  He graduated cum laude from Carleton College with a B.A. degree, majoring in mathematics.  Mark is married and has two grown children.  He enjoys handball, volleyball, reading, and hiking.

Joe has worked in the property/casualty actuarial profession since 1993 and has served as a consulting actuary since 2007.  Prior to joining Actuarial Advisors, Inc., he had worked for Gross Consulting, Zurich North America, St. Paul Companies (Travelers), Milliman USA, and W.R. Berkley Corporation.  His experience includes providing reserving and pricing analysis for a wide array of coverages for self-insured corporations, captive insurers and insurance companies.

Joe holds designations of Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).  He graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Worcester, MA) with a bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Mathematics.  Joe enjoys sports, reading and volunteer mentoring his son’s high school robotics team.
